Mr. Dylan is a Hypocrite

with 13 comments

Bob Dylan is a legend. A genius. A hero. A prophet. And so on and so on. Oh yeah, he is also a hypocrite.

Stop yelling for a minute there. Don’t get me wrong, I love Bob Dylan, he’s a great artist, great musician, and great lyricist. But I hate the fact that he is a hypocrite and I hate hypocrites.

How do I know that he’s a hypocrite?

I googled “Bob Dylan’s quotes”. Guess what two Bob Dylan’s quotes that I found on a quote site?

“You don’t necessarily have to write to be a poet. Some people work in gas stations and they’re poets. I don’t call myself a poet because I don’t like the word. I’m a trapeze artist.”

and

“I consider myself a poet first and a musician second. I live like a poet and I’ll die like a poet.”

What do you think? Is he a hypocrite or not by making those two very different quotes? I have said before that I hate hypocrites, but after I discovered that Bob Dylan is a hypocrite, I still love him. It means that I am a hypocrite too.

Fuck.

  1. ckckckck…first thing you have to do is try to look at the time mr.dylan said both of the quote..i don’t have the slightest idea but i am very sure that they are separated in a long period.maybe around 5 years..and if it isn’t, still, isn’t it natural if someone have a different point of view at a different time?

simple thing,it’s like saying, ‘i love her’ at one time and then say again, ‘i hate her’ at another time..
does it make you a hypocrite? NO

what matters is,DID YOU MEAN IT WHEN YOU SAY IT? is it the truth? did mr. dylan mean it when he said those words? because hypocrite, is the one who didn’t..

understand the word first man.you owe a lot of apology to him..

  2. i got one sentence for you, “try not to be subjective”. i think that he doesn’t meant one of those quotes. if he meant those quotes, he won’t change his thoughts easily. this is very different than a simple “love or hate her”. love is a feeling, so it will changed based on some incidents or something, but what mr dylan said is not a feeling. it’s more of a statement.

  3. here’s my analysis on those two STATEMENT:
he said the first quote in his early years, when his confidence is not yet steadily built.he is not convinced enough of himself, of his writing, of his poetry.he don’t like to be considered a poet because he FEELS to be considered as such word bears a big responsibility.and he’s not yet ready for it.

second quote is said when he had passed those phase.hundreds, maybe thousands of poetry he had made.poetry is him,and he is a poetry.then the word came out.

these two occasion plays pretty much with FEELINGS.with his feelings at his current state. a two different state. its not a feeling? you’re kidding me man..

  4. is it his feelings? or is it his ego talking? his way of showing off and tell the world that he is better than anyone

  6. ok. so you said that it didn’t have anything to do with ego. you denied that he’s a hypocrite. you said that the year length between one quotes and the other is too long. walaupun jarak waktu itu jauh tp apakah itu mnutup kmgknan kalo bob dylan itu menjilat ludahnya sndiri?

  7. i go with alfie at this subject, nothing is absolute in this world. Being a hypocrite is a choice, and to hate it is also a choice.

  9. hahahhah.ko jadi ngomongin taglinenya nike da..
blom slese kan ni? lanjut ah..

setelah gua pikir2 lagi, dua ucapan diatas tuh “intinya” beda..

You don’t necessarily have to write to be a poet. Some people work in gas stations and they’re poets. I don’t call myself a poet because I don’t like the word. I’m a trapeze artist.”

ini bukannya dia bilang dia bukan seorang poet, cuman dia meredefinisikan konsep “poet” itu sendiri aja.
semua orang itu puitis dasarnya, dan waktu itu dia masih merasa rendah karena menjual, mengkomersialkan diri.”trapeze artist”akrobatis sirkus.klo lo liat di i’m not there, si aktor ngomong ini juga dengan gaya sedikit malu2.

    lalu

“I consider myself a poet first and a musician second. I live like a poet and I’ll die like a poet.”

    poet tulenlah,intinya.

munafik, bukan. menjilat ludah, bukan. pendewasaan diri men kesimpulan gua jadi..

  10. elo blg dia mredefinisikan konsep poet. sdangkan yg mr dylan blg adalah “I don’t like the word” bukan “I don’t like the concept”.

trus si bob dylan jg ngrubah pendapat dia ttg poet tuh bnr2 brubah bgt. 360 derajat brubahnya. prubahannya trlalu gila2an klo mau diblg pendewasaan. jatohnya malah ky koreksi pendapat. atau dg kata lain menjilat ludahnya sndiri.

  13. Winston Churchill said it best…

    Dylan was and still remains…

“…a riddle wrapped in mystery inside an enigma.”

    It’s all folk music…
